Preparing For The Audition Part 1

Look The Part

Some of you may already be audutioning. If it is theatre or film, one thing is certain; if you want the producers and director to see you as the character, you must look right for the role.

Think about it, if you are going in to read for Tom Joad, then you aren't going to go in wearing and Adidas sweat suit right? You can't be seen as a combat medic if you are wearing your suit from your day job at the bank.

I can't tell you how many times I have been to an audition to play a cop (I always read for cop roles in the Batman films they make in Chicago) and you walk in and it is like you just walked into a Chicago Police Department Precinct House! We all do it. If you are going in to play a hippie, you may want to wear some torn up jeans and your favorit Stones t-shirt right?

Now, you can do what I do, which is take a bag with you and when you get to the audition, pop into the bathroom and change really quick, so you don't have to go to your table waiting job at Fridays wearing stuff they are going to bust you for and send you home-and you can't go be a bank teller wearing combat fatigues. So, I have compiled some good places for you to hit online to find some good stuff.

What you want to have is 1 good buisness suit. Male or female, if you are 20 or older and can play 25 or older, own a suit. Doesn't have to be expensive-buy it at a discount store. I buy all my audtion outfits at Overstock. It is dirt cheap-and frankly I won't wear a "cheap" suit. But I also won't wear one of my HUGO BOSS suits to an audition on a 95 degree day....don't want to mess up the nice threads. So I have 2 suits from Overstock-in fact one is a Boss suit-got it for 200 bucks-about $1200 less than my non-off the rack Boss suits. I have one that is "winter weight" so I don't freeze and one summer so I don't roast. I have some shoes, ties, etc....all from Overstock-and to be honest, after I found this place, it is where I buy all my dress shirts, belts, and some other cool stuff. I bought my flatscreen there too. So follow this link. Save up to 80% at Overstock.com!Start thinking about what you need to be presentable at an audition.

For other stuff, like "hip" stuff that everyone in Hollywood wears, I get my t's at Wolfgang's Vault. This place will make you the coolest kid on campus, whether you buy the stuff for auditions or not!Rolling Stones Apparel

I get all my military stuff at Brigade Quartermaster, cause it is authentic and I am nowhere near a military base where I can use my inactive reservist card to buy BDU's(combat Fatigues).

Save at BrigadeQM.com- Up to 75% off!

You can search the web for all this stuff. These links are just the easiest and the cheapest I use-and lets face it if you are an actor and are reading this-you can't afford not to save every penny possible!

The internet is a great place to find everything you need to outfit yourself for your auditions. You can find clothes, books, cd's that you can listen to(but reading is better for your brain, and everything else under the sun to get you on your way.

The trick is being prepared-which will be the next installment of the blog-Preparing for the audition.
